Hi,
I have built a garage with traditional hip roof. I have the ridge and hip tiles ready to fit. The roof is slate the hip and ridge tiles are stepped red terracotta. I have fitted the hip irons.
What is the correct way to fix the tiles.
Do I use mortar under the tiles to bond them to the roof, some people say no just point all the joints with coloured cement.
One person said brush all joints with linseed oil and point all joints with red mastic.
Just to confuse me more I have been watching a re-roofing job down our road and they simply laid the stepped ridge and hip tiles end to end up the roof. with no cement no pointing?.
Can Anyone tell how the job should be done.
Thanks
John.
