what are these

My guess for those boxes sat in front of the transformers is they are some sort of circuit breaker or isolator. Could be air or oil filled.

Looks very much like simple 11kv/415v oil cooled trannies.

Cant really ID the switches, but usually they are '2 way switches'.

Typically, three are used at a sub. One as the main sub iso, the other two isolating the loop in and loop out (assuming it is a ring main).

They are 2 way, with one of the ways bonded to earth on the thre poles. If you isolate a network run, you would would then move the iso to the earthed position. You would do this before being given a permit to work on the cable.

11kv step-down trannies with oil cooled circuit breakers in the foreground. Possibly late 60's early 70's English Electric or GEC manufacture?

Where are they? (and don't say in the factory yard! )

Its an old power station turned into a restaurant near the docklands, they are in the yard, whether that is the original location I dont know.
maybe not as old as I thought then.

agree with transformers.

just hope they dont explode

ok so its an american one, looks good though
Better quality version here:

Plus lot more entertaining items: http://205.243.100.155/frames/longarc.htm

And they'll sell you things like this:

Some of the first British Railways Electric multiple units (in Glasgow) had a problem with exploding transformers (25kv to 1000v).

The guard's van was just above it, i.e. about a foot above it.

One guard apparently had three explode under him.

Then they fitted Buckholtz relays.

Most definitely transformers and 11Kv circuit breakers. The breakers are out of their cases which don't seem to appear in the pic.
You can actually see the four of the six Pins on the one in the centre between the two transformers.

Yes Agreed We always wind the switch out of the rack and lock it so that it can not be reinserted
A lot of these type of transformers and breakers are still in everyday use we have some very similar to these where I work
