What did you believe was high class growing up?

Was it expensive back then? As a youngster, chicken seemed to be reserved for Christmas - nobody seemed to like turkey. I'm no expert on meats or cooking, but now chicken seems to be the cheap option. I looked at lamb in the supermarket earlier this week and it seemed to be the more expensive option.
Back in the 70's as a kid I remember chicken being a luxury, it was mainly NZ lamb we had. Then all of a sudden for some strange reason, you couldn't get NZ lamb.
 
Back when I was a kid I thought it the height of "high class" to be asked a question about what I thought was high class.

I mean, for what possible reason would anyone ever bother to ask us 'serfs' ?
