What did you learn today?

I personally think PSA make the best Diesels.

But the 1.9 VAG SDI unit is a very tough unit. I have seen one example in a private hire taxi that has done 800K.

I think the older designs with fewer bells and whistles and less to go wrong are the best.

They're also not fussy about what you feed them.

A case of don't fix what ain't broken. I remember the days when you could see the ground below the engine and look at the inside walls of your tyres.
Modern engines don't have enough room to put your fag packet and cup of tea down! Far too much gimmickry for me to be honest.

One of the most enjoyable cars I ever drove was a Citroen Xantia with a Peugeut 2.0 HDI diesel, brilliant car. Had a Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI after that but the experience was marred by the particulate filter on the exhaust getting clogged all the time, which illustrates your point about bells and whistles.

My present van is a Scudo with the 2.0 HDi (Jtd) engine. Brilliant engine, and at 100K sounds good as new. They reckon you can get 250K if looked after. Being 16 years old, luckily it has no DPF to worry about.

I have an LDV saic van

Made in China

Engine is Italian

No issues to date bought it new 14500 £

Bit agricultural but it does the job
Rarely see any tbh seen 2 others since I bought it nearly 3 years ago
