What have you been doing today?

My eyebrows, grow rapidly, and if not cut, they annoy me getting in my vision. I usually leave their trimming to Avril, though in the past - I've used a hair trimmer with one of those hair length guards fitted. Avril, hadn't noticed their increasing length, so a couple of days ago, I decided to tackle them myself, except I couldn't work out which was the correct length guard, and ended up with almost no eyebrows at all. Since when, I've been waiting for Avril to notice - no recognition yet

Yesterday, we got our first ever phone call, since moving to fibre, and an IP phone service. I run an annual international museum event, with the even set for a couple of weekends in June, but the actual dates had not yet be set and advertised. I had to enter into a quick discussion and get agreement on the actual dates, then get back to the caller, late in the evening, with the finalised dates.

I find it much easier using an eyebrow comb with scissors. Easy to brush up and attack those hairs.

Witnessing high levels of irony.

Driving near Lichfield, bloke on motorbike behind, wearing bright orange "hi viz" trousers and coat.

He crossed the solid white line, and sped past a number of cars on the "wrong" side of the road.

The irony being his coat had

"HS2
Danny Sullivan
Think Safety"

on the back  :ROFLMAO:

Went on the penultimate shoot of the season. Bloody knackering. Even my dog got worn out and when I lifted her out of the car when I got home, she stood stock still and wanted to be carried to the front door! She came straight in and before I could bathe or feed her, she was up on the chair and refused to budge.

Quick update on the old busted ankle joint.

Been virtually bed bound since fracturing my ankle on November 23rd.

Went back to see the surgeon in hospital on Monday. First, I was sent to X-ray. I was asked to climb a piece of kit with steps on so that an X-ray could be taken with the joint under "load", but I wasn't confident using the steps, so I had X-rays taken on the table.

Then I went to meet the surgeon.

His first words were: "How have you been with your walking?"

My instructions while in hospital have varied from "partial weight bearing" from the physio only when doing "sit to stand" exercises to "non weight bearing" at all times.

The surgeon was horrified when he realised what had happened and even worse when he realised I had lived with my AirCast boot on 24/7. He got a poor victim, sorry, nurse, to remove it immediately and wash my leg and replace the festering sock.

Then he arranged for me to have a session of Physio immediately as he said I was on the point of no return WRT losing mobility in the joint as it had been cooped up for so long in the boot.

I did get a copy of the discharge notes on leaving hospital but they were written in hospitalese and there's no way the average patient could decipher them.

Anyhow, moving on, I have been shuffling round the downstairs, doing the exercises the surgeon set for me to get my ankle moving. It's very tiring, but I'm determined to try and catch up on all the time I've lost lying in bed!

I'm going back to see the surgeon again in a couple of months and hopefully I will lose the AirCast boot.

Re the poor communication I'm going to write a letter of complaint to the hospital demanding that each patient gets a letter on discharge with simple instructions outlining what they should do.
Sounds like a bit of a nightmare but at least you saw the doctor in time and there’s no further damage.

Keep moving but be careful!

Nearly frying myself! Had a bit of a twinge in my upper back - I suspect it was from carrying an aged dog through brambles and on and off the beaters wagon on the shoot yesterday. Mrs Mottie had dug out an old fleece covered electric heat pad to put in the dog bed but the dog found it too hot. She gave it to me and said I’d need it set on number two (the highest) but after a while it got too hot so I put it down to number one. Still too hot so I put a blanket between the cushion and my back. Mrs Mottie came into the room later and said she could smell plastic burning. Anyway, she tracked it down to the heat pad. I took the pad out of its fleece cover. Look at the scorch mark on the pad and the cushion!

Of course, I cut it open to see what was inside and this is what I found.

Luckily the dog found it too hot as we were going to leave it on all night in the dog bed a while ago when we had those cold nights. Could have been nasty.

Grrr, my holidays have expired. Back to work today, and that means less time on DIYnot and relaxing at home.(n)

How times have changed - I never would have even considered buying a Korean car. Today I was passing a Hyundai showroom so I popped in and had a look at a new Tucson. Very nice. Looking at the hybrid version, not the PHEV. Salesman said I could have a 24 hour test drive. I’m tempted…

I'm considering a Dacia Spring. Just for popping to the shops etc. One here for £12998 nearly new.

We had the previous model to that for a couple of years. Comfortable and reliable, not a single fault in that time. Did you look at the Santa Fe or is that too big? Do they still have the 7 year warranty?

Santa Fe is too big for our needs. Hyundai only give a 5 year warranty now which includes the hybrid battery but anyway, Mrs Mottie has just pìssed on my bonfire and told me that her job might be moving back to Basildon hospital where she used to be based and the car park there is like one big game of bumper cars. She says if they do move her, she'll go back to using the Golf for work. That would mean that just like the Evoque, any new car would sit on our drive and be used 95% of the time just to cart the dog about and I’m not having that again - nothing worse that a car stinking of wet dog when you want to go out somewhere nice in it!

Skip diving! Well, not exactly. Went past a house that had a skip on the front with a few bikes and kiddies toys stacked up next to it. I knocked on the door and asked if they were being chucked. They said they were but they were too good to chuck so they had left them out for others to help themselves. I took a cracking little bike for my grandson. Took it home, pumped the tyres up, adjusted the brakes and he has a bike down here for when he stays with us.

Went and had a haircut today. I had a 'senior special' at the Turks up the top. Blimey, he didn’t half go to town. Apart from the haircut, he buzzed my eyebrows, ears and nostrils and then set light to some cotton wool on a piece of wire and singed right inside my ears. To finish off, he pulled my T-shirt right down and buzzed my back and neck and then did my front from practically my tits up! All for £14.
