The pair of us are laid up indoors with a hacking cough, aching muscles and a cold. Watching telly but I’ve got to go out in a minute to hunt down some supplies and something nice for tea. We were away last week so virtually sod all in the fridge.
Could it be covid?
Tried everywhere, even the charity shops, and not a single one of any type to be had. Then, on the way back home, as we came back into the home village, we thought to try a local hardware shop, and they had exactly what we were looking for

If I read the graph correctly, hospitalisation for older people is about ten per hundred thousand per week. If the infection circulates for ten weeks, I presume it will be 100 per hundred thousand over that period, or, one in a thousand. Much higher for the over-85's. Presumably the number of cases not severe enough for hospitalisation will be much higher.
A new vaccine was approved around 18 months ago, previously there was no prevention or cure available, so it was one of the things that carried off old people in winter.
Unless you are over 75 or qualify in some other way, it is only available privately. I have an idea it is about £250 at participating pharmacies. I am prone to chest complaints and lucky enough to be able to afford it, so I did. I think last year was quite bad for it.

Definitely what we had. The good news is the cold symptoms were gone within 3 days or so. The cough lasted 4 weeks but decreasing all the time. I think after about 2 weeks I could almost go all day without coughing but wake up at in the morning coughing, we had seperate bedrooms for a week because of disturbing each other. At the end of it we had a week,, maybe 2 of fatigue. We only felt we were back to normal last weekend and that was from Christmas.
On reflection, perhaps aside from the cough, none of the symptoms were severe, but it lasted a hell of a long time. It's been widespread, I don't know many people that haven't had it.
Not many as the weather's been so crap and wet. I wasn't going to start a thread on this one because of the last one being spammed with anti Israel crap by Odds.

Went out and got some essentials and for tonight I fancied duck breast. They were £4.75 each in Sainsbury’s and they weren’t particularly big. They did however have a whole large duck on offer at £7.50 so I bought that. I did a bit of diy butchering when I got it home (not as easy as cutting up a cooked chicken, I can tell you) and got a pair of large breasts (ooh err missus) which I’ll cook tonight and two legs that I can use next week in a cassoulet plus I had left over the frame, a couple of wings and the giblets that I’ll give to our friend for her dogs. Mrs Mottie was less than impressed with my butchering skills but she said she was more concerned with my cleaning up skills and blitzed the worktops when I had finished.
