What have you been doing today?

Popped over the allotment this morning, not planning to spend a lot of time there but when I arrived, my plot neighbour had turned up had just started rotavating my larger beds (he told me he was going to do it for me one day this week). Obviously I couldn’t get on with doing things on my plot and leave him rotavating so I took over the rotavating which took the best part of an hour. I then moved a few trays of seedlings from my greenhouse into the allotment polytunnel as they were getting burnt and scorched in the greenhouse. Planted a couple of dozen beetroot seedlings.

Came home and set about opening a couple of new ISA's, one for me, one for Mrs Mottie. Did that then sent a test £1k to each of them which was the minimum deposit amount. Mrs Motties went through in minutes so I sent the other £19k, that went in within minutes too. My £1k - Disappeared into the ether! It's left my bank but not got to the ISA. Two different institutions though - Kent Reliance and Vanquis - as I opened my account last week but have yet to fund it. Hopefully it’ll be there by tonight. Not panicking. Yet!

Did it do a name check.

Were you given a time scale.

Crappy banks sometimes take longer.

Check with Gas112, you might have paid it into his plumbing account.

Yeah, name and account number checked out. Was worrying that I’d put the wrong reference number in. Panic over. Literally just after I posted I had a text message telling me my account had been just been credited. Checked my account online and the deposit was showing. Just sent the balance through now. No worries about that as their details were automatically saved by my bank as an existing payee.

A bit of concreting, and spider watching....

A couple of years ago, I edged the rising above the side of my garage level slabs, of my drive, with concrete. I took a risk with the old bag of cement having gone off, and it had gone off, so the concrete quite rapidly disintegrated. We've just redone it all, with some fresh cement.

We've been watching a spider, high up on the living room wall, by the coving, for several days - as you do. First noticed, in the middle of the wall, in progressed eventually to the corner, then all the way back to where it started, in the middle, and a couple of feet further past the middle. Not quite as massive as the one (or maybe more than one) which lives in my garage, workshop - I can hear that scarper to hide, when I go in and turn the lights on in there. I once accidentally got too close to it, and it reared up, in a very threatening manner.

It can be quite interesting watching spiders, in the spring we sometimes catch spiders outside our front door making a huge (ie about a 4ft) web that also stretches between a tree and several points on the ground, very impressive. Also watch them in the garage sometimes when I'm in there, as they often make a web around the windows, a fly getting caught, the spider popping out from nowhere to wrap it's victim up and then returning several hours later to cart him off of to his nest for dinner, then the same again the next day. Are spiders intelligent enough to make a web over a window because they know a fly will be in the vicinity?

Started painting my newly plastered ceiling. Gave it a light rub down, then a sealing coat, gave it a second coat and then popped over the allotment with the intention of putting a final coat on when I came back but I got too involved over there and didn’t get back until after 8.00 so I’ll probably finish it tomorrow.

Over the allotment I was only going to do a bit of watering but I ended up doing a bit of weeding, planted 6 pumpkin plants, raked a few beds over, moved some more seedlings into the poly tunnel and sowed some carrot, lettuce and radish seeds. Filled a couple of buckets with mulch chippings from the allotment pile, brought them home and mulched my front flower bed.

Oh, I harvested some more asparagus to have with my breakfast this weekend. Big fat buggers some of 'em were.

I think I’ll just sit back now with a nice glass of wine. Cheers!

Whilst away, a couple or so weeks ago, on holiday, the navigation system of my ICE system (Nav, radio, CD, phone, TV), simply disappeared completely. I rely heavily on it, maybe too much, to avoid me having to think of routes, and so Avril was having to use her phone to direct me much of the time. The OS, and maps etc, are on a SD card. I tried all sorts to restore it, writing a new card, resetting the ICE system. nowt worked, The GPS wasn't even showing in the ICE config..

All I did, which I had never done before, was - when you get to your destination, it pops up on the screen a message asking if you have arrived. I always just ignore it, and switch off, except this once, I touched the 'yes' on screen button, and then it died.

I was on the point of seeing if I could remember how to get the unit out, to see if I could open it up and check the internal plugs and socket were fully home, when I read a suggestion to disconnect the car's battery overnight, reconnect and then see if the nav came back. It's been off overnight, I've just reconnected and the Nav system is back in full working order.
