What have you been doing today?

More construction work over the allotment today building my walk-in brassica cage. I think I may be over engineering it but it should stand for some time. So far I’ve used 10x 8ft 4”x2”s, about 25 x 8ft 3/4” x 11/2”, 6x 8ft decking boards, half a roll of scaffold netting and about a zillion staples. I got all the wood for free, courtesy of the allotment manager and a neighbouring plot holder gave me half a roll of netting. So far all I’ve spent is £8 on a couple of hinges and a latch for the door. I’ll put up a picture when it’s finished as it’s still a work in progress at the moment.

As a frequent purchaser of wood in recent months, I'd say you've saved a fortune there mate.

..Have a suspicion the new provider is going to feck up too. Told me to print out and send in ISA form but gave old isa details in the application and email confirmation said to do nothing and they will arrange transfer online. Phoned up for confirmation and they said no need to fill in form. I just know it’s going to go wrong….
Well, it’s disappeared from one provider and as yet, not turned up with my new one. Always a tense moment when a large chunk of dosh is in internet limbo……….

Still nuffink. Starting to get a liiiiitle bit concerned but I’m not going to phone them up until nearer the end of the day……

Been over the allotment doing some more work on the brassica cage but come home for a bit to get out of the bloody sun! Only place I have some shade was in my shed but it’s like a furnace in there. My allotment tool kit is a tool kit I found in Mrs Motties mums house when we cleared it out a few years ago. It was her dads. He's been dead about 20 years now but delving deep into it, I found this:

Are they still used these days? Last time I used one of those was a couple of nights before my wedding in 1984 - screwing some T&G chipboard flooring panels down in our house that we would be moving into after the wedding. Did a whole room and ended up getting married with a blister that covered the whole palm of my hand! Had a few funny comments about that……..

Had a 'yankee' longer ago than I'd care to remember, slipped off many a screw and scratched whatever I was working on, never had anyone's eye out though, despite being assured by my superiors that I would.

It made me jump when I turned that knurled ring and the end flew out with some force! I could see someone losing an eye with that…..
