Ok, here we go....

I currently have a single socket in my lounge and I would like to make it a double socket for convenience.

Is this fairly straight forward to do, and if so how do you do it?

I know this is probably a very stupid and easy question.

I have looked up the adapters your talking about - yes these would work but we want to change all our sockets to a brushed metal finish. cant see the adapters with this finish.

Is the current socket flush or surface mounted ?

Flush-

Pull fuse at CU
Check circuit dead
Remove socket
Dig out back box
Chop wall to accomodate double box
Use grommets and set new box (and fix it with a screw!)
Replaster / fill gaps around box
Terminate new socket
Test

Surface-

Pull fuse at CU
Check circuit dead
Remove socket
Remove box
Provide new double back box
Terminate new socket
Test
