...to play music stored on a smartphone though a car stereo that does not have aux input?

Change the stereo?
It's a Vauxhall 08 plate, not a standard DIN fitting.

does it have a usb socket?
Sadly not. It's a CD30.

If it has a connector on the back for a CD changer, there are kits you can get to add an Aux-In. It's tricks the stereo into thinking it has a changer hooked up.
Have to look into that.

Find a station that does requests.
:)
If we could only go back to the 70's! A push button MW/LW radio if you were lucky!

Dad was posh, we had a teak effect 8-track!

You might have to frequent some of the Vauxhall forums if it's a non-DIN unit. You can get transmitters and other gizmos but they are a bodge.

I did briefly own an L reg Hillman Avenger Super in the 80's and that had the very same!!
I had a choice of Elvis, Frank Ifield and Louis Armstrong.

Christ, what a snobby reply.
There are plebs in the world who can't afford a car that has an aux input and has to retrofit a solution.

I am told by a couple of car forums that you can't adapt the CD30 for AUX capability.

I've seen different outcomes. Some have managed it, some have had to do a lot of work to make it happen but it only worked in MONO. Others suggest retro fitting a CD30MP3 but of course, Vauxhall being Vx it has to be 'divorced' from the donor car and 'married' to the new car via Tech2; unless you can find someone with a T2 terminal you'll have to go to Vx and last time I enquired it was like £60 an hour to have someone plug into your car.

Found out the CD30 MP3 only has capability to play MP3 CDs. It does not have an AUX socket.

But the original could be replaced with a DIN unit and a small cubby.
