Hi all

I hope you don’t mind a quick question.

It’s leaking slightly from the nuts on the far left of the picture. I nearly tightened up the far left nut, but then I realised I didn’t know what it was. Is it to reduce pressure?

Anyway, would nipping that up help?

Thanks for any help. It’s appreciated.

1. Looks like a pressure reducing valve.
2. If it's really leaking from the nuts to the left hand side, tweaking them up should help.
3. Check first. Unless the pipework has been recently disturbed, it is more likely to be leaking from the flat flange with the multiple screws. If so, probably replacement time.

Thanks Old Buffer, I’ll nip it up first. I don’t know if it’s been disturbed, but that seems the sensible option.

Cheers!

Hi all

I tightened the nut 2nd from left but then saw there is a drilled hole in the middle of the end but (visible on the photo). Water was coming out of there.

I guess that’s to ease pressure, but is it like a toilet overflow, a sign something needs replacing?

Thanks
Andy

It seems like it's an old pressure reducing valve. Is it on the mains cold water?

In any case it is probably ready for replacement. They're not expensive (£30 - £40), but make sure you know how and where to turn off the water before you start swinging any spanners or screwdrivers...sometimes (and I get the impression you're not very experienced with plumbing or DIY) 'just nipping it up' can have bad results for the unwary.
