What kind of conduit do I need for buried armoured cable?

That duct has a drawstring inside to either pull a heavier duty rope through or to pull CAT5/6 through it. If it isn't bent much I should think you could push a 2.5, 4 or 6mm SWA through it

Much of the problem is that cable that has been wound on a drum can do some strange things when pulled off the reel.
theoretically it should unreel straight, but it has its own ideas, especially this time of year.

Never. That ‘civil’ duct is corrogated. Your cable end will dig in. The draw string is there for a reason.

anyway, all this is (as usual) somone trying your make an everyday simple process into a complicated one.
OP. Drop your duct in the ground, make sure the draw string is there, pull the SWA in once the spark has confirmed the size you need.
Simples!

The OP mentioned 25mm² SWA, althiough he was not certain about that.

If you must use twisted lay drawcord then use a smaller one of THESE between drawcord and the cable

I'm sure a swivel shackle would achieve much the same result for a fraction of the cost. But in answer to the OP SWA is stored on drums, the steel in it has a "memory" and it wants to coil up again, so yep it will try to coil itself up again, the bigger the cable the higher the force it will exert to get back to its coiled state.

If you taper it by stripping a length of the armour off and put insulated tape round the end it slides through easily, done it two dozen times running 4G Radials through similar ducts when civils have neglected to rope it :)

Guess it boils down to how long it is!
