What screws to use.

The type of metal has not been mentioned on the thread so far. Screws have been mentioned.
And most screws are made from low to medium carbon steel wire.

Still doesn't answer your sweeping statement on post 12.
Even so called rust proof screws will eventually rust if driven into ferrous metal.
Seen it on dozens of roofs.
just removed 2000 5 x 30 so called rust proof (anodised) screws that have rusted.
Mebbe some ferrous metal would have saved them.
All replaced with stainless steel.
