Hello experts.

I am fitting an engineered floor in the next month or so.

What % wastage would I allow on my calculation of 34.21m Square please? 4 Rooms which are all square bar one with a bay.

Also I am going for engineered floor which comes in packs of a standard length. As I would like a 'random look' I have been told that I can cut the planks to various lengths as I like. Is the end normally T&G'd? If I loose that T&G with cutting the plank is there a small chance of the two ends not being flat? I will be using 3mm of foam on 6mm ply on top of good floorboards. Ill also be using a good mitre saw to ensure square cuts!

Your advice very welcome thanks.

Standard is to add 5 - 7 % waste. For 4 rooms I would go for 7% waste (you're never sure you can use off-cuts from one room for the other).

You shouldn't cut boards shorter which go in the middle of a row - you'll loose the connection -, you can cut 'starter' boards (first in a new row) shorter to create a random staggered pattern.

Sorry! Madam. :)

May have changed our mind now and going for solid..

Engineered just looked abit too...well ... engineered.

Back to the drawing board.

Hi Woodulike.

Serves me right for going to B&Q! The 15% offer was too much temptation..
But, I am taking your advice and finding a local specialist.

The engineered woods they did didnt look great and the solid pack lengths sempt very short to me.

Q. If I go for solid what is the max length I might expect in a pack if I am paying £50 per sq. m?

With us you would get between 800 - 2200mm lengths, where the shorter ones are maximum 10% of the whole lot.
