my hotpoint wml540 has bitten the dust.
bearings have gone and looks like the motor has gone too.

I cant afford much, circa £200 max.

options so far are Tesco Own brand wmv510 @ £159

Beko wm5101w @ £169

whirlpool awo/r4205 @ £179

any thoughts?

if you can think outside the box a little, you may drop on a bargain.

we have a local appliance shop that specialise in machines with damaged sides etc. and when mine went to the great washing machine graveyard, we popped down, and we bought a Whirlpool big drum, fast spin digital display machine without a dent or scratch for £220, the machine my wife actually wanted, and at near £500 it was out of budget...

now theres always going to be a catch in this kind of tale, and there is. The name plate, with cotton, synthetics and all that jazz is in spanish! no-one has ever noticed and it took less than 1 min on google to work out what delicatos is, etc... best bargain I've had in years, and from a local seller, which i like.

might be worth an hour of your time if you have a few local appliance sheds near you, they have been good for me.

Of the ones you mention, I would go for the Beko. Whirlpool are OK but the spare parts are very expensive if they go wrong.

Be careful with the Beko model you quoted as the spin speed is rubbish & it'll take ages for your washing to dry! Also its got quite a low capacity only 5kg I think, which isn't great if you have a family & need to wash a lot of things.

If you can afford to go a bit higher say up to £230 approx then get a machine with at least 6kg capacity & a spin speed of at least 1200rpm

John Lewis have an Indesit for £232 with 1400rpm 6kg load A rated Free delivery & 5 star reviews from 80 buyers - see their website.

Don't think that John Lewis is just for expensive items - we always include them in a price search & got our Wii from them as they had the cheapest price & my new oven was much cheaper from them than anyone else.

Also Boots are now doing kitchen appliances & are very reasonable too (yes Boots the Chemist!)

avoid hotpoint/ indesit like the plague

What about £85 for a 8month old Zanussi with a stuck tempurature control, fixed in 15minutes with a blo of silicon grease...?

Seriously, for £150 budget, it would be on ebay for 1yr old machines, sort by distance, simples.

Why would someone be selling a year old machine if it's any good?
