Hello all,

Is this normal?! Why is the fireplace not in the middle of the chimney breast?

I've seen this before whereby the large side of the fireplace is actually just a ridiculously oversized piece of boxing. Usually containing old pipes and valves for a backboiler.

Give it a tap, if it sounds hollow this might be your case...
 
Is your picture overhanging the wall? :lol:

I imagine the flue goes up to the left of the fire opening, it can be balanced out by building a stud wall.
 
Is this a first floor fireplace? If so the flue to the ground floor has to pass to the left of the opening?
 
How on earth did you manage to get that drill to stay on there?
 
Could you not build a fake bit of chimney to the rhs to extend it and make it look even?
