whats the best blocks to start an extension off below dpc?

hi all

starting my 2 tier extension very soon and in the process of buying materials so i was wanting to know what the best blocks are to start the extension off with underground and below dpc.The extension will be block inside and brick outside on show all information greatly recieved

7N dense concrete in two skins or a single trench block of the appropriate cavity wall thickness.

Don't forget you need a suitable frost cover below DPC and 225mm below ground level, so normally this is 5 course minimum of engineers.

Inside, you can run blocks up to the DPC level

If cavity walling in the ground, you need to tie it together as normal and fill the cavity to 225 below ground with lean mix concrete

Price up for mass concrete fill too, to see how it compares with building walls in the ground

what do you mean by frost cover?

You need to use the appropriate FL rated bricks at the exposed points Woody is referring to i.e. external masonry at ground level. Class b semi engineering bricks will deal with this. Staffy blues or red engineers will do. Many facing bricks are fl rated too.
