What's the best way to cut slate tiles?

We want a slate hearth but OH says a single row will not be deep enough, 2 rows will be too deep.

So it looks as though we are going to have to have one and a half rows, which means cutting some slate tiles in half.

What's the best (safe) way to cut slate tiles?

You favour a dry cut, then, not wet.

Personally I think one row is fine, but.....women!
Son in law will be doing the job. I've managed to get out of it.

Doesnt make a difference IMO, just dusty.

I have a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a diamond disk in the van, comes in very handy.
