Ten years ago I was sat at home, off work with broken ankle, thumb and two ribs following a bad car accident.

Bored to death of daytime telly, I clicked on a link on the blueroom forum which brought me here. I signed up in the hope of passing a bit of time for a few weeks.

Today, 18,711 posts later I celebrate my 10th birthday as a member of DIYnot.com!

I've made some good friends on here. Life has certainly changed during my time here. I've gone from working for the local contractors doing 50% domestic work 40% commercial 10% industrial. I moved to a commercial contractors in 2008 where I stayed for 4 years before going self employed. I now spend the majority of my time working in theatres all over the UK while subbing for a few specialist firms, which I really do enjoy.

Remember back in the good old days when the site looked a lot different?

I think I've tracked down my first ever post.
Hi how are the switches currently connected? i.e. which cores from which cables go to which terminals on the switch? Can you take photos so we can advise where you have gone wrong

Rob

Here's to the next ten years (y)

Congrats mate, I bet you've helped so many people along the way to with your rather good advice. Personally ten years ago I had just started retraining to become an electrician after mainly working in Telecoms..Tempus fugit indeed

Joyeux Anniversaire! (as they say in Yorkshire!!)

I seem to remember mine was to answer a query about the cost of a board change.

Not a lot changes on here, does it?:)

It's amazing how much has changed for me in that time.

I was SE then. 18 months later I was back on PAYE.

8 years later I was retired due to ill health.:(

Still, mustn't grumble.

10 years! Well done. Thanks for all of your positive contributions - especially the World famous (and much missed)
Picture of the week!™

Congratulations! You are one of a very small handful of people here who I have always regarded as the 'backbone' of this forum, and it certainly wouldn't be the same place without you, so I'm certainly very pleased that you 'stumbled across' DIYnot all those years ago!

The title of this thread is Oh So True. I was amazed to find myself passing my 5-year DIYnot 'anniversary' a few weeks ago!

As you say, a lot has changed over the years, but some things never seem to change. Following my very first post (on 28 January 2011), I received several very helpful and practical responses to the question I had asked, and then ....
  1. Building Regulations approval
  2. With all the circuits being extended, does compliance with the 17the become required?
  3. Testing
  4. EIC
:-)

Kind Regards, John
