hi
i intend to flush out my system as ive never done it to ensure its running tiptop for winter.
i intend to add x100 inhibitor afterwards.but not 100% sure which tank to add it to.
i have one in the loft and one directly above the cylinder in the airing cupboard.
im assuming the one in the airing cupboard is the f&e tank and this should be the one i add it to.
am i right in this assumption.
all advice greatly appreciated.

It goes in the small tank.

To make sure, open the taps on the bath and see what tank is filling up.

Then you know to add the inhibitor to the OTHER tank.

thanks for the quick response
im glad i asked, my assumption was wrong!
the small tank is the one in the loft and i can clearly hear the tank in the airing cupboard filling up with the hot water tap running.
one puzzling thing though is the tank in the loft used to feed the shower in the bathroom until i put in a new one direct off the mains which is why i assumed it was the one in the airing cupboard.
whats all that about???

Hold your horses a minute, how many tanks do you have in your loft, and how many pipes are connected to it? Does your hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard have a sticker on it, if so, what does it say? If it says Primatic, you can't use any chemicals in your heating system

thanks for replies so far.
cant post pics but will describe best i can.
the tank in loft has 3 pipes - one is plastic so assuming thats just an over flow, the other two come up from the airing cupboard, one is 22mm going into bottom of tank whilst the other is 15mm with a tee to the top of tank and the original shower which i capped off.
as regards name on cylinder cant get jacket off so not sure about that one.

The pipe going to the top of the tank in the loft which also fed the shower is the cold main.
So you're ok to add your chemical to the loft tank when you're ready, but you'll have to drain some water out of the system to allow it to circulate.

Still not convinced, you still haven't said how many tanks you have in your loft, Sooey may be jumping the gun a bit here with that advice...

Don't think so, he's already said he's got a tank in the airing cupboard as well as the one in the loft. So he hasn't got a primatic.

Ah good shout, I read his OP too quickly and assumed he was calling his HWC a tank, I see now that he said he has a tank above his HWC

.
start draining the rads - you`ll soon see the water level in the correct tank - drop ;) float valve won`t necessarily drop too - they often get stuck thru` lack of use
