Hello all

Im in the process of pulling out my old 1930s fireplace and putting in a nice wooden surround and woodburner. What are the makes/names to go for in woodburner makes? Im looking for a mutli-fuel burner. less than 5kw would be ample.

Thanks

Ours is a Morso Dove.

It's an expensive beast but beautiful IMO. Multi fuel and very controllable. We are very pleased with it. My experience with a few models is that sealing air (out) when you want to is useful to control burn rate. Double doors are b*ggers for letting air in and being more tricky with the rope being bumped and needing refixing.

A single door is better sealing and easier to replace the rope for.

'Air wash' or other terms (depending on maker) is a good feature. I expect you'll struggle to find a new model that doesn't have this feature, but 2nd hand models might not have it.

Make sure to consider the particular options your chose burner has for flue port- out the top, or out the back... and consider the location of both. Heatas boffins have strict distances for everything...

just remember a 5kw duel fuel will only give out about 1/3 on un seasoned wood

An Eco fan (approx 8" high) sits on the top of the wood burning stove.
Its power supply is a thermo voltaic cell, so as the fan heats up, it starts to spin, gently propelling the heated air around the room.
They are almost silent, and in my opinion a very worthwhile extra.
I'd also go for a flue pipe thermometer, which gives you some idea at what temperature to keep the stove at.
Fan - around £60 Thermometer around £12.
John :)
