I know that something was taken out of paint, making it more prone to yellowing.
A few years ago, we had the whole house painted, and the guy said he used stuff that won’t yellow. It did, and within a year. It was very noticeably different between the doors and architrave.

Is this inevitable?

Thanks

No.
Waterbased acrylic gloss stays white. Water-based alkid will yellow a bit over 3 to 6 years. It's hardly noticeable though.
Oil gloss goes yellow fast especially in poor natural light. Loft hatch is first to go yellow..

Rub paint with meths to see if you have oil or waterbased paint. Nothing comes off if it is oil

Do you smoke?
Me?
No, never have, disgusting habit.

And the only person that did smoke in our home since about 1990 (when smokers started to be more considerate, although women, in my experience, were slower than men to observe the nicetiesof “taking it outside”) was my mother, who died years ago

Nicotine staining, would condense out on the surface of oil paint, but was it able to soak into the surface, to yellow it?
