Who pays for product recalls and work to replace them?

The recall of MK sockets as shown here could take years, I don't have any as shown in the pictures, so it does not worry me, in my own house The report links to the PDF I am glad I used cheap LAP sockets from screwfix, and did not fit what was always considered as quality stuff.

But I think of a housing estate and how long it would take to replace 100's of sockets, and who would foot the bill.

One good reason for letting the electrician provide the goods, I am thinking of the house owner who has bought the gear himself, would he even know there was a recall?

I'm quite impressed to see AliExpress products on the Gov site.

It was a "Personal protective equipment (PPE) – Climbing Harness " though, so rather important

Alot of the electrical items seam to be travel adaptors and items with UK plugs that don't meet the standards

30 years ago I was on new build factory, hundreds of fluorescent fittings went up, an eagle-eyed spark noticed the ballasts were 110 volts, whoopsie

We've just had an email from Amazon telling us that a toy we bought for our grandson two years ago costing around £150 (with a few extra's) is being recalled and we are getting a full refund.

That reminded Mrs Sunray but well out of my memory bank; We purchased a scooter for our grandson some years ago from Toy r us and it must have been 2-3 years later a letter requesting us something to the effect of 'to destroy it if the scooter still exists ' and a full refund cheque. There was even instructions on how to destroy it.

For a item which is not installed, easy to say get rid of it, and refund the money.

But when the item is installed, it will have a larger cost to replace to the cost of the item, Woolworths in Australia had a huge claim when it was found the cable they imported from China was leaching out the plasterer and cracking. And home had to be rewired. I have seen some old PVC wire in UK with the green gunge, although not heard of rewiring as a result in the UK.
