it weren't a DIY job it were an old gas pipe here is the full story:
Gas bosses are to spend £70,000 replacing a broken gas pipe responsible for an explosion in Northumberland.
The blast, in Farriers Rise, Shilbottle, destroyed three houses and landed a woman in hospital with serious burns last Sunday morning.
Gas firm Transco said it thought the 40-year-old pipe was responsible and that it would be replaced within two weeks "to restore public confidence".
Work to lay 800 metres of new plastic pipework will begin within days.
Transco spokesman John O'Grady said: "Before last weekend there has been no history of leakage from the pipe, so we are not replacing it because we think there is a problem.
"We are spending £70,000 on new pipework because we believe the confidence of the public has been eroded.
'I was unconscious'
"Transco is committed to the safety of the villagers and wants to restore public confidence."
The injured woman is currently being treated in a Newcastle hospital. Her husband escaped the blast with minor burns.
The woman's neighbour Susan Grant escaped with bruises when she was thrown across her bedroom by the force of the explosion.
A few hours earlier Transco engineers had given the area the all clear after responding to reports of a gas leak.
Ms Grant said: "There was a blast and I got thrown across the bedroom and I was unconscious for a few minutes. I couldn't find the door because I was disorientated."
The Health and Safety Executive has started clearing the site for an investigation which is expected to last months.
