why repressurise accumulator tank every 3 months?

Took old accumulator tank to tip yesterday. Noticed label on it saying tank should be repressurised every 3 months.... Why? We never did this - basically because we didn't know you had to. Is this why it needed to be replaced when only 4 years old? This is something we could easily do ourselves isn't it? As ever, all help gratefully received.

What do you mean ONLY 4 years old. Many people would be jealous of this. What sort of repressurise do you mean, air or water. There should be something in the boiler manual about it, if not part of the boiler, What make tank was it?

Littlesaur - because it DOES, that's why. Tiny leaks I suppose.
Sure you could do it yourself - car footpump would do but take a while
