Wickes Aquapanel - is this correct?

Hi

Advice please, on Wickes Aquapanel for shower enclosure.

I've read the Wickes Good Ideas on Aquapanel - it doesn't go into much detail.

So I was Googling around and came across this - this poster said;

You also need a 38mm clearance behind the aqua board. I also wouldn't screw
aquaboard to batten......they will get wet and rot if there is a problem.

QUESTIONS

1) My space is limited - is it true you need 38mm clearance behind Aquapanel?

If so, why?

I wanted to screw Aquapanel straight on to studs on one side of the shower,
and fix battens to brickwall to accommodate incoming pipework from the floor upwards,
to exposed shower mixer.

2) I have brought the Wickes Aquapanel 'tape' for the joints.
I've tried at 2 big Wickeses and they do not seem to stock the joint filler stuff.

Can I use ordinary cement to fill the joints (with the tape embedded) ?

3) Does it matter which way the joints of Aquapanel are installed - vertically or horizontally?

4) The shower tray I've got hold of is very heavy (1100 x 80 RH Offset Quadrant).

I need to raise this off of a concrete floor.

I was going to use 18mm WPB plywood to support the tray - and under the plywood
some stud timber.

But I've read some horror stories even with WPB.

If supported properly - should I use Aquapanel instead to support the heavy tray?

5) Or what is the best way to treat the WBP plywood?

I don't intend for a single drip to get past my boards or tray, so it is not likely to get wet,
but belt & braces.

You'd understand my paranoia if you saw what I've removed from the old shower
system from previous owners.


Any other help or ideas most welcome.

aqua panel does NOT need to have batterns behind, you CAN if you wish DOT & DAB using dry wall adhesive to hold the panel in place then use THROUGH FIXINGS, these can be obtained from the likes of B&Q or screwfix, heres a link for the screwfix fixings

Just dab you adhesive onto the wall, space the dabs as evenly as possible, then push the aqua panel into adhesive, let the adhesive dry, then drill through and attach the fixings
