Just having a garage conversion / extension take place. The issue is the top of the door is as high as the extension roof line so the windows cannot be put up that high. I've uploaded a photo and you can make out the blue line where the door will go (centre in second pic) in relation to the window void on the newly built extension. There is a window going to the left of the door.

The question is, how high / low to put the left window so it doesn't look out of place? We have tried to align the top with the door but it looks far too high against the right hand side window. Putting the top level with the other window and it looks far too low against the door! Meeting in the middle makes sense but then we are left with two windows and a door all at completely different heights! Any ideas?

External door and window heads are set at 2.1m up from DPC. No idea why someone would set them out at different heights.

Presumably he won't be building the garage that high.
Although it is a good question whether you can increase the garage height under PD without costing too much?

Thanks guys, yes theres the problem, 2.1m up from DPC on the extension and you are above the roof height and into fresh air. Its not possible. The extension is slightly below ground to hide from the neighbours view, what you see is the final height and so theres no room to move there. I thought about moving the window up one brick course on the right, it will be more in line with the left window but the door is still much higher. Would this be a better idea?

Sorry I'm out of ideas, but I think you could play around with photoshop in your photo and see what makes sense visually. With houses it's the proportions that are important, so maybe you can make something of it by adding a fake architrave or something to draw the eye away. Good luck though!

You hero John, a really good idea. Just been having a play around with a basic photo editor and come up with four different scenarios. Will discuss with my builder tomorrow. Thank you so very much!

Off the topic. What grass is that you have got there.Looks very lush...

The completely uncut variety! Dealing with this build and so the lawnmower is collecting dust :)
