I have a latch and window fastener on a small window both of which were originally coated in a brown semi-transparent metal coating. Now this is peeling off and it doesn't look good. I'd like to simply both the items. But, try as I might, I cannot undo the screws on the fastener. They are simply too tight. Any suggestions?

assuming they are slot screws
take the correct size screwdriver firmly tap the driver into the screwhead and try to tighten 1/4 turnfirst before loosening
use a pair off pliers pipe grips or spanner as applicably for extra leverage
if its a phillips or pozi
sellect the correct driver/bit [probably a pz2/pro2] and as above
