Hi,
I want to add a window into a single-skin single-story brick pitched roof garage, on a side which isn't the gable end (but which I don't know the name for!), but 2 questions:
1 - the window has to be at least 390mm from the outside corner, but is there a minimum distance from the pier in the middle of the wall?
2 - I'd assume (ahem) that the same type of lintel used for the pedestrian door (same wall, other side of the pier) would be appropriate - it's a "C" shaped one allowing bricks on the outside, like the catnip "CCS" ones. Is that reasonable or should I get a struct eng to do the calculations? (I could happily add up weight of bricks, tiles, etc, but I suspect there are other forces involved).
