Window Reveal... Where to begin?

After a battle with a rotten window frame, I have been left with a big mess around my bathroom window (see below).

How would I go about fixing this? I'd love to give it a go before getting a professional in.

is there a wall cavity and is it insulated?
My preferred method would be to insulate the open cavity, dot/dab the window reveals, basecoat damaged areas, then bead and scim.

Then you cannot insulate, so dot/dab reveals.

Ok, there is about a 35mm gap between the masonry and the edge of the window. Is this gap too large to pad out with the adhesive?

Build it out with a couple of sheets or frame it out.

dot and dab it out then bond out to flush it all up then skim

For the top of the reveal I'm going to double up some sheets, what is the best way to bond them together? Is the plasterboard adhesive used to bond it to the wall OK?
