I use two to turn of the garage lights and the trip the wifi when it needs a reboot in the loft, range is about 50m for the garage and 20m in the house between the office and the wifi unit, two floors in between.

Yes I think it should work, it's less than 3m distance and plasterboard.

Can you mix brands of same frequency? For example, switch transmitter from Quinitec and receiver from an ebay Chinese import, both operate at 433 MHZ. Or is it a silly question 
I understand you have to pair them, if you do per receiver set up instructions then should work, no?
