Thats the service, whether you achieve that depends on where you are in location to the exchange.16mbps![]()
My God, I only get 4mbps down here ... Mind you, we only got electricity 5 years ago![]()
WOW I've never been timed out before and I was looking forward to hearing what you had to say about someone illegally downloading child pornography using my account.
Never mind.
Goodnight Softy Boy.
I was looking forward to hearing what you had to say about someone illegally downloading child pornography using my account.
Which must surely now close this topic ... The answer is YES it IS illegal.A recent court case, which saw a West London man fined £500 and sentenced to 12 months' conditional discharge for hijacking a wireless broadband connection, has repercussions for almost every user of wi-fi networks.
It is believed to be the first case of its kind in the UK, but with an estimated one million wi-fi users around the country, it is unlikely to be the last.
Craig: If you have taken offence from the hypothetical example I used earlier of course I apologise.
How can you be sat outside my house downloading child pornography ffs ... You don't know where I live![]()
You don't know where I live
You wouldn't be responsible for how someone uses your Internet connection, in the same way that an ISP isn't responsible.I wouldn't mind if others shared my service as its pretty fast at 16Mbps and unlimited and over the top for my needs but It's how to trust what is downloaded by others, how could one control it?
Thanks for the advice SoftusThere are ways and means of controlling it, however; for example, with a suitable router you can bar access to certain sites and/or sites featuring certain keywords.
If you're worried then the best advice, which is frequently heard everywhere, is to secure the wireless network. If you include in this the use of an access control list (working by MAC address) then you'll bar uninvited access to all but the determined and the knowledgeable.
Contrary to what northerners think, Devon is quite a big place, we don't all know each other nor do we have one big eye in the middle of our foreheads![]()
