I have 8 12v 50w downlights, and 8 60va transformers.

I would love some advice on the correct, most efficient method to connect them to the mains.

There is a 20A 4 term junction box connected to the lighting ring, and I have switched live connection with a 1.5mm T&E tail (at present). So how should I deliver the mains to each of the 8 transformers. Each fitting in the ceiling is about 1.6m apart in a U-shape around 3 of the walls.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

use a j201 lighting junction box at each point and daisy chain them together. Hope you got a decent make of transformer.

So if I use 8 J201 junction boxes I will only use 2 terminals in each one. I was thinking that there must be a more effecient way.

You'll need three terminals in each one. Because although your transformers are class 2, you're still obliged to continue the earth core the full extent of your lighting loop, which means into and out of each junction box.

If you're so concerned at the (presumably cost based?) inefficiency of 8 junction boxes and not using every pin, then I fail to understand why you got 8 seperate transformers for 8 lights?!

At 64p each, I'm not worried about the cost. I just thought that there may be a faster way to do it. Such as connecting 2 - 4 transformers to one junction box, is this bad practice?

That's fine, but it looks neater and it is simpler to use a j/b for each transformer.

which transformer did you get ?. If you use an IBL one they are ready madeup and contain loop in wiring facility into the transformer, also the ones availablr from Senate Electrical have an earth terminal to continue the earth. Otherwise JB on each which is the most popular way.
