If you put it in the airing cupboard then all the wiring from the previous programmer back to whatever supplies that will need isolating at the other/both end to make safe.

There is only one supply to the heating wiring. Naughty if you use 2 as you could isolate the supply thinking it is dead and then get a shock because it has another supply.
That's what I am saying, do not do it.
This is why IMO the tado would be better in the airing cupboard where it all can use the same supply.
Test it to see if it still works the same there. you do not need to connect anything to it just mains.
enable it then see if it has changed the output state or can you hear a click.

I thought the Tado sent a switched live to a motorised valve which then opens and sends a switched live to the boiler and pump. If so how will the relay help?
