I am currently fitting out a conservatory and want to put in some plug sockets, i believe I can do this by connecting up a fused spur from the main ring main in the sitting room. However I also want to fit in some lights, can I spur off the power sockets, if so should this be in 2.5mm cable throughout or can I use 1.5mm from the back of a socket to the lights

depends if you would like the cable to get hot and possibly set fire before tripping the fuse. If you do, then so be it but otherwise use cable of the correct current carrying capacity.

You can run 2.5mm² from the socket radial circuit to a 3A (or 5A) FSU and run your 1.5mm² lighting circuit wires from the FSU.
