Hi,

I'm wondering if if someone can give me advise on bathroom wiring regs.

I have an electric undertile heating mat which has an IP21 thermostat, the wall it will go on is 1m from the side of the bath so falls into zone 3. Can I mount the thermostat on this wall?

I would also like to put a extractor fan into the ceiling along with 4 downlights, do these need to be 12v and IP rated? My ceiling height from the floor is 2.4m

Thanks

Steve

There are no specific requirements for zone 3, so unless the instructions specifically forbid the stat to be installed in a bathroom then I can see no problem here. Just remember that wash basins also need to be taken into consideration when working out the zones.

That puts your ceiling into at least zone 2, and zone 3 if you don't install them directly above the bath. You can use mains or 12v as long as they are at least IPX4, any fittings sold specifically for use in bathrooms are likely to be suitably rated.

Thanks for the information on the thermostat.

I was thinking of putting 2 lights above the bath along with an extractor. I'm not sure about the height, is 2.25m measured from the bottom of the bath or floor?

Do I need to use sealed units as they may be in zone 1 (depending on where height is measured from).

Also do I need to use fire rated downlights (the bathroom is on the ground floor with a room above)?

Thanks

Steve
