Women only car insurance companies

We rang a load of supposedly 'women only' or those 'specialising in women' companies when we were trying to sort out our daughters insurance...in many cases they were big comapnies like Norwich Union etc who just had another add in the yellow pages...in a few cases we got through to the same dept

Waste of time.

I cannot believe you lot are so naive !!!!!sp

Libby why are we being naive?
Do you think i have a point with my complaint?

Actually, I know for a fact that"Women Only" insurance companies do actually insure men too. Sheila's Wheels do.

So they are not "Women Only" insurers.

next post says it all, sorry for soundind rude

there are companies offering cheaper rates to over 50s too - so is that age descrimination against young drivers? ;)
I think it's all a marketing ploy to get people to ring up who think they'll get a discount becuase they're female/young/highpowered car/ etc etc. They don't get a better price they just think they do! I ALWAYS ring several companies for quotes every year. Takes a long time but usually saves a large amount of money as renewel premiums are always more than 'new business' premiums!
call me cynical

Libby i didn't think you were being rude, i genuinely don't see what i've missed...

This is a part of our legal fabric:

"Section 45 of the Sex Discrimination Act permits preferential treatment in relation to certain types of insurance. The company have received substantiation to show that female drivers have a better claims record on their motor insurance policies than male drivers. As such [the company] is entitled to offer preferential rates to women"

I know they insure men... and i know that they could subtlely discriminate on price etc... but it's the fact that the law allows for 'preferential treatment' that i can't stomach...

I'd be interested to see any similar scenario where it say "preferential treatment for white, middle-aged, males.."

Would a 'whites only' insurance company be acceptable?

Not a cat in hells chance!

Or would an Asians only company be allowed?

Of course it would. Just like the Black Police Officers Association.

Or even the MOBO awards

Good point spicey poos..

I once applied for a job with a women only decorating firm in London called Interior Motives (and yes ok...maybe I did have an ulterior one.. ) but they only took women on..

The building trade is slowly waking up to the potential of having a few fems on the books but seixism will thrieve for many years to come

I once set up a girl with a small decorating firm when I worked for the CITB one partner was really up for it...unfortunatly his neanderthal parter wasnt 'I aint bent or nuffink mate...I love women, but they aint no place for them in the decorating game'...so I said 'yeh...better off at home cooking and cleaning eh?'...'thats right' he said...he was so ignorant he couldnt even tell I was taking the pess out of him.

The girl ended up with another firm and won apprentice of the year at ther college..I hope he read it in the local paper..'while his wife was cooking his tea...

White males already get preferential treatment almost everywhere.

Why are you creating an issue where none exists?

why should women, who drive more sensibly then their younger male counterparts, not have the right to cheaper car insurance.

it would be unfair to women to make them pay for testosterone fuelled, boy racer antics, when they themselves drive more considerately.

17-25 yr old males should be kept off the roads, or if they happen to be on them, be charged accordingly.

I was joking in my previous post.

Motor insurance premiums are based on risk. Some cars are a greater risk, or more expensive to repair than others and some drivers are a greater risk than others. Male drivers are a greater risk than female drivers. Young drivers are a greater risk than mature drivers. Novice drivers may be a greater risk than experienced drivers. Motor mechanics are a greater risk than say Telecomms Engineers.

Men are from Mars

A while back the insurance industry were saying that although young males were more likely to be involved in an accident through driving like total ******s...female drivers were more likely to bump, dig, knock and scrape cars.

So they have based that on actual incedents rather than the amount of damage done by the sounds of it.

Personally I would up the age limit to about 21...syre thats penalising decent young drivers but it will also stop a lot of unneccessary deaths on the rds due to some idiot larging it in his Corsa/Clio/Saxo

Sounds reasonable Zampa, but statistics can say anything.

Wouldn't the cost of a young males 'proper accident' be greater than a females parking ding or scrape.
