Wooden Stair tread 'covers'

My wife has seen a picture in a magazine where an existing 1970's carpeted closed staircase has been transformed by removing the carpet and fixing new wooded treads/nosing on top of the existing treads. I can't find such an item anywhere - do they exist or is it something i'll have to make myself? Any help would be much appreciated.
