Any advice appreciated. My daughter has a Worcester boiler and it was paired to a Salus thermostat. She had the impression that the thermostat wasn't working so has bought and identical one but we can't figure out how to pair the new thermostat as the boiler doesn't seem to be responding to be paired to a new thermostat. Not even sure if this is a plumbing problem or something else!

First salus are not the best!
If original thermostat stopped working because of dead battery's you can't just stick new ones in.
Need to be left out for at least 30 minutes.
Good quality alkaline battery's required.
Some of later salus stats have a override button on receiver have you tried that?
We used them on a contract where they were specified changed no end!

Could it be a problem with the boiler? The hot water is working but radiators not coming on.

Those stats are truly horrible
Whenever we have swoped on have replaced receiver as well as they are paired.
I would personally replace with something better.
EPH combi pack 4 cost effective alternative.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a reason why the gas light isn't on or is it just a thermostat problem?

Because the boiler does not know that the thermostat is calling, because it is not paired with the receiver, as @Exedon bin the Salus, the EPH are good but there are others too, if you need a temp measure to get the heating on we can advise you how to do that but the thermostat will be over ridden so only controllable at the boiler

What is the temporary measure to get the heating on?
With the power turned off, on the rear of the Salus receiver, connect together the wires in the COM and NO terminals.
The receiver should be bridged out; you can then use the controls on the front of the boiler to control the heating.

There are also options to try and re-pair the thermostat and change codes, but as said by others above, this may just be delaying the inevitable!
