Looking to join 2 Kitchen worktops together (straight join) 1 worktop is 4000mm x 700mm and the other is 600mm x 700mm I require a total worktop length of 4120mm. What type of joint do I need for best result and where is it best to cut the worktops to be secure. I have had an estimate for a mitre joint of £50.00 over the phone by a joiner from my local paper is this a good rate. Thanks in advance.

£40 quid would be a reasonable price. Price really depends on the worktop material but also whether the worktop has a round nose on the top AND bottom. Double rounded worktops require more care when routering.

I charge £60 for a single joint then £40 for every subsequent joint.
Doesn't need a mitre cut, in fact it wont look quite right on a straight run.
But it does need both ends routing off straight for a good finish then joining with colorfil and dogbone connectors
