I'm doing up mother's bathroom just now. The xpelair is mounted on a plywood board - is there any regulatory reason for this? Just wondered if I could ditch the board as it would look a lot tidier without it.

A picture would be a great help.
But I cannot see why an ex-fan mounted on or within plywood, providing installed correctly! Would not conform to the regs/requirements.

It is often done when an old airbrick is used as the vent, to make it fit.

Show us a pic.

Not sure if this pic will be clear enough - I wasn't taking a pic of the fan

No idea where the pic went. Second time lucky

I will be entirely unsurprised to find an airbrick behind it. Go and have a look at the outside of that wall. You could block it up and tile over it if you want.

I had a nosey - there's a louvre vent outside and a large round hole. It was the council that installed it. They've never heard of rawl plugs that's for sure - just use 3 inch screws to attach the ply to the wall and 2 inch screws to attach the fan to the ply - oh and don't bother screwing them - just hammer them so that they bend and are a sod to come out.

For some reason, they install everything on plywood - including the boiler.

I meant the gap round the fan. Instead of the ply.

Vent the fan through a duct through the walled-up airbrick.

Which seemingly doesn't exist.

I know what you meant JohnD.

The council just seem to have a plywood fetish hahahahahaha
