If you are innocent until proven guilty, why do suspects need to have a water-tight alibi and have a legal representative to help prove they are innocent, when a charge is brought against them?

presumably because it is the system that is charging that person with guilt and therefore have to prove that guilt otherwise we'd end up with a witchunt with everyone accusing each other of crimes.
