I have just found a water leak from a small hole in the external steel casing of my Zilmet EV.
Please see the attached image:

The EV has been placed horizontally on the ground between the hot water tank and the (edit: System) boiler for approx. 2 years.

I have no idea how the EV steel casing could have got punctured in this position...Has anyone come across this type of problem before? And what's the likely cause?

I assume replacing the Zilmet EV is the solution. Is this something that needs to be done urgently for safety reasons? Are there any quick work-arounds to help provide hot water whilst I get the EV replaced. And I will appreciated any guidance/links to a straight-forward step-by-step guide for replacing an EV.

Many thanks in advance

It's knackered, get a new one and stick it somewhere where it will be less prone to having things dropped on it. Any chance of a new zoomed out pic of that pipe work, it looks like it might be funny.

I came across one a couple of months ago that was connected to the wholesome water side of an "air bubble" unvented cylinder. Someone had turned off the main stopcock because they didn't see the one next to the cyl, but in their wisdom they did order a "straight swap" replacement.

that would explain the perforation

So how long, do you think, the new one will last?

Many thanks for the quick replies - here's a bigger photo. Apologies for some reason it's rotated 90 degrees when uploaded to the forum....

and another:

Hope this helps...

Many thanks - Hmmm..I am wondering why the plumber installed this type of EV 2 years ago... And why this has not been spotted during the annual service checks by my current plumber...

Is the replacement of the leaking EV required urgently for safety reasons Or can it wait a few days?

Also is the replacement of the EV a reasonably straightforward DIY job? I am keen to get the hot water working again today....if possible

I personally wouldent class it as a diy job, unvented cylinders can be dangerous if not treated with respect, call your plumber
