I don't wan't to hi-jack the "other" thread, so I'll start this one.

Regarding the following quote:

the usual forum problem of housebashers assuming they are fully trained sparks.

Just out if interest, how many people who contributed to the HIE thread work in domestic premisis?

Are you a DI, or a time served electrician, or something else?

To divert the topic already - how did these come to light, and are any of the perpetrators in trouble?

Back on track - DIYer, bash my own house around.

I'm a genuinely DIY housebasher, and also an IT/telecoms engineer, which is probably worse!!

actully ban they kind of shot themselves in the foot really.the original contractors were working on a council contract doing refurbs for them and it wasnt until some were handed over that the started to look at the certs.by that time over 100 jobs had been done.
ive had it all over the last 3 weeks,no continuity,no MEBs  no rcd protection,240 v fans in zone 1 no r1+r2 on the lights, live cables hanging out of ceilings, you name it mate.

its funny, people say about councils not really having much input into electrics, but these london councils really know there stuff, they all have there own engineers and they make you squirm at times believe me.several times ive had the bible handed to me to prove something and they even spot check my reports.
AFAIK the perpetrators are going to have the book well and truely thrown at them, one councils top geezer has told me that those contractors will never trade again

Automation Logic Manipulator.

OK - I thought (dunno why) you were talking about all the notifiable jobs that householders had had done by electricians who had been abducted by aliens just as they were about to issue the certs....

Oh, and, err - almost finished my EAL DI VRQ...

70% House bashing, the rest commercial, some industrial and marine electrical & electronics

60% domestic though no new builds. I do however end up with a few rewires, even the off occupied one

The rest would be industrial and commercial. Currently rewiring an old industrial unit and in the process of having a nice custom distribution board made up - 16 x 3phase BS60898 ways and 12 x 3phase BS88 ways (damn welders!).
Also do machine guarding and interlocking though not as much as I used to.

Time served (19 years).

Total Domestic
One man band so try not to touch rewires (unless the money`s right)
I also do contract work for a local sound proofing comany where i just basically extend sockets/switches from the old brick wall`s to soundproof boards.
