After reading the advice from these forums I have changed the boring old light in my sitting room for a fancy-pants halogen one. Thanks!

I have gone to do the same in the bedroom but unfortunately I have encountered a problem. In the sitting room the switch live was easy to identify because it had red tape around the black sheath. No such luck in the bedroom.

My second thought was that the switch live would be the black wire going to the same part of the connector as the brown wire. No such luck there either; as you see in the picture this wire is RED.

Any idea which wire the switch live is?

Also, there are THREE earth wires coming from the ceiling (only one in the sitting room). Do I just put all three together with the one from the light fitting as before?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Switched live is where the brown on the left goes down to the lampholder.

Looks like they've used the black as the permanent live and the red as the switched live.

Sleeve all earths and common together.

Hello.
Check the 'sticky' for wiring diagrams.
Thought of taking the switch off and having a peek ?

Please do not work on 'live' circuits.
