Hi,
I'm changing a bedroom light fitting, which was a ceiling rose with 4 cables. The new light fitting just has live and neutral. I've followed previous advice and connected the 3 plain black wires to the neutral, the switched live (black with red tape) to the live, the 4 red wires to a single block and the same with the 4 earth wires.
The problem I have is that whilst the light switches on, the other upstairs lights then go off. If the bedroom light is off, the others flicker when turning on. What have I done wrong? I've attached a photo of the original ceiling rose

Sounds like you have mixed up the blacks then.

The black wire with the red tape goes to the L of the light.

The remaining three blacks go to the N of the light.

The four reds go to a seperate connector block.

The black with the red tape should go to the light switch, so check that first.

Have you a continuity tester? You need the power off for this test.

Thanks for your quick reply. I have connected them as described, however the red tape fell off the black wire during installation, so that could be the problem. I thought I replaced it on the correct wire, but it's possible I didn't.
I'll check tomorrow and see
