Brand and Farage are in the same category for me. Good at spouting populist soundbites but fail miserably when it comes to the substance.
I quite like Farage - I've said so on here before. He does have some character and he does sometimes make me smile, and I do like the fact that he is prepared to speak his mind. But, he is pretty much free to say what he likes knowing he'll never have to back it up. It reminds me of Cleggy; for years he spouted his liberal carp and then suddenly found himself having to answer for it. And we know how that ended - or is about to end.Brand and Farage are in the same category for me. Good at spouting populist soundbites but fail miserably when it comes to the substance.
Farage is a great orator, who has balls to take on the cosy ruling class, and tackle issues that the majority of the UK electorate want action on. Definitely opportunist, but at least he starts the debates that need to be started. Sometimes he goes a bit far in his personal attacks, but he is a potent antidote to bland, career politicians - both at home and in The EU - who serve little purpose except to keep their snouts in the trough.
Brand can hardly be in the same category. He's an overpaid, alternative 'comedian' (as an alternative to being funny), who stands for nothing except to spout the garbage that keeps his mainly young and naïve followers and Twitter-twits happy.
Farage is another one of the same group - he talks the talk and produces good sound bites without actually having to do anything about it.
He's not shy of taking the full salary and all of the benefits that go with being an MEP.
He criticises immigration policy but is married to an immigrant who he also pays (from EU funds) as his secretary.
Not of course forgetting his (and his wife's) background as traders on the London & Frankfurt financial exchanges.
So nothing too hypocritical there then?!
On what basis do you control immigration (if that's what the government decides to do) - skills/background/links to the UK/Commonwealth/personal wealth and who decides?
"On what basis do you control immigration"
Same as Australia.
Who's values would that be? And what values are they?
