If it stops people with absolutely nothing to offer the UK, then on that one point, it will have been a success. But without your crystal ball to see into the future (claiming it will be a big mistake) I'm willing to take that chance. Who knows? Might just turn out alright (then you can come back here in ten years and eat that humble pie,, but I just know you won't)

Up until about 1983, any BOT citizen, spouse of, grandchild of, could claim British citizenship. After that only those born in BOTs or their children could claim British citizenship. Since 2002, they are treated as aliens, are subject to immigration controls, and cannot live or work in UK.

If post Brexit Brits are not allowed to "retire " to Spain, France, or anywhere else in EU, net migration will increase, if immigration continues at the same levels.
If a visa will not be required for EU citizens to travel to UK, but a work permit will be required for them to work, but migration watch realises the pointlessness of it, why the unnecessary expense and administration?
So immigration was one of the most primary reasons for Brexit, but it will not make any difference at all, except to add layers of administration and expense!

I voted remain, so did my better half. Most, but not all of our family voted leave. My family is not racist, nor have a hatred of foreigners. Having lived in 3 Middle Eastern countries plus Norway and Singapore we've seen many different ways of life and appreciate our background, esp us kids who did majority of our growing up abroad. Living in those places taught us so many things, least of all not to judge people and to appreciate their customs and way of life. It was at times, incredibly interesting and exciting, esp when first started to settle in to each country.
It's people like you who are helping to create this division, labeling everyone who voted out as a racist. You make me ashamed with your admission of hatred to those who voted out, not knowing who they, what sort of a person they are or their reasons for voting out. You are actually showing the same blind, blanket hatred for leavers that you accuse racists of doing to foreigners.

People are mostly accountable to the electorate directly beneath them. If you elect a few elites, and they in turn elect some super elites, then the super elites are accountable to the elites, not to you, at least not enough to count for much. The commission is accountable to the council, like the cabinet is accountable to the PM.
Being ruled by a soft tripartite government of resident Britons, in London, in one building, with the legislature directly accountable to the public electorate, is a concession many of us can live with (though personally I'd like to see more devolution). By contrast a basically bipartite system (the comission has most of the legislative and all the exective power, and are only accountable to the Council), of multiple nationalities, in multiple buildings, in another country, plus a judiciary that outranks even our own supreme court (a judiciary system I also disagree with BTW), is a level of abstraction, a lack of transparency, and a remoteness that 52% of us object to. It doesn't matter how wise, honest and fair they may be (currently), it's simply not a form of government that we find palatable. Oh, that and the goal of a united states of Europe that every President has waxed lyrical about so far...
We signed up to an economic union. What we got was a political one.
