I think its what students do for food. Fill a drawer with porridge, let it set hard, then break bits off as required.
Bit like a large flapjack then?

Salt is traditional as it's a preservative and helps keep the porridge fresh in the porridge drawer.
Had a quick gander in the Howdens catalogue, but couldn't see that any of their kitchen ranges had a 'porridge drawer'.
What in heaven's name is a porridge drawer?
Very traditional to make porridge with a tsp of salt in the pot. Tastes much better with it. (ye dinny put it on after it's made,,, that wid be jist plain daft)
Have you ever boiled potatoes , without putting salt in the water before boiling them? Bloody tasteless when they come out. You just can't put the salt in to them afterwards (just doesn't taste the same) Same with porridge. Add the salt when your making it. You'll taste the difference.I put it on after it's been made. How would it taste different if you put it in before it's made?

No, I have a wife to do that. You don't have a dog and bark yourself.
