Offered Something Else Besides Money

LOL at S.T.

I imagine if you found yourself homeless, you would be begging on the street holding up a sign that said...

"will work for ammo"

Sir with a firearm one will never go hungry or have to resort to begging and if no guns are available there is always a baseball bat of a knife or bare hands if needed

No longer do jobs for family (except parents and inlaws)
Fell out with a few too many, Wifes Uncle asked if i would help with his bathroom,i said yes as long as you give me at least 2 weeks notice so i can work it into my schedule.
Anyway phones me up on a sunday evening at half 7 to say he is starting it tomorrow and could i help!!
I say no,doing a boiler job for next 2 days then going to cyprus on wednesday so cant fit it in
I then get a call from his mum(my wifes grandma)slagging me off saying i promised to help him after all he had done for me.(plastered a kitchen)
They forgot all i had previously done for them unpaid, she said she would never speak to me again ,which she didnt as she died a year later. She never spoke to my wife either even as she lay dying in hospital ,but she was a bitter old cow so no loss to me.

Then my sister in law fell out with me, i had done about 4 jobs ,all unpaid when brother in law phoned up saying he was starting to remove on suite and could i help.(he cant change a plug )I knew this was them trying to get me to do it for free, phoning up every day asking for help.
I just said yes i will help you remove it but will have to charge you for any parts.(reasonable i think)
Anyway gets a call back saying it was being postponed, then sister-in law phones up my wife slagging us off for asking for money to help.
Not spoken to them for 3 years now, and will not until i get an apology, just think its hard on my wife ,but its always her family who expect freebies yet she isnt the plumber .

As for payments in other forms, did a job for an old guy and said it was on me, he then promptly produced 3 large bottles of babycham lol. When i got home noticed it was 5 years out of date, but got his sons boiler job out of it.

I'm about to fix someone's computer problem in return for some guitar lessons.

I hope :D

i done a lead step flashing on a chimney for the local council at one of there properties and the tenant who lived there was about 90 and an ex-welder, once i finished i was having a cuppa with him when he was going on about the war etc etc, he told me about his welding days and insisted on giving me all his tin snips!
Right handed. left handed, round cutters, large snips, small snips. he gave me the lot.

Lovely old boy, they dont make 'em like they used to thats for sure!

Just wondering anyone got any stories on being offered other things besides money when working in someones property

And I don't just mean sex, anything at all, items etc...

In the back of my van is a fruit machine. That was a TIP. The guy paid in full.

The chairs in our dining room came out a 4 star hotel, dey is well posh.

The dishwasher is a gaggenau (lady was having it replaced with a neff!)

My sisters oven is a gaggenau (same kitchen, sis says the best oven she ever used, she had her heart set on a bosch double but this was so good she's keeping it)

Telly in the lounge is a top line panasonic CRT. £1000 CRT tellys are so 90's now.

In the garage there's two boxed £200 cristopher wray light fittings... fitted them for a (rich! :) ) customer who decided they weren't bright enough, bought some more and told me to take them

Thats just some of the stuff I've blagged. Having a van parked outside at a time people are carrying out improvements sure does come in handy sometimes. these were all freebies BTW, not taken in lue of payment.

Either 5 quid or a bag of scrap lead

A 'Swedish language education film'....... ;)
